Los Mixados

Los Mixados is rooted in my experience growing up between two cultures as a first-generation Latino that many others can relate to. Drawing from language, family, memories, and everyday moments,using storytelling, and cultural references to explore what it means to live between two identities. My work reflects the ups and downs of that experience while showing how Spanglish is more than a mix of two languages—it's a way of connecting, communicating, and carrying both cultures with you.

Why the shape?

This visual explores what it means to grow up between two cultures. English and Spanish begin as separate paths before becoming intertwined through everyday life. The tangled middle reflects the challenges and growth that come with balancing both identities, while the final blended line represents a new identity shaped by each culture. Rather than one replacing the other, both exist together to create something uniquely its own.

The crew

Each Los Mixados character is made from one continuous line, symbolizing how identity is shaped through different experiences, cultures, and languages. The tangled form reflects the ups and downs of growing up between two cultures, while the playful expressions remind us that these experiences can be challenging, meaningful, and sometimes even humorous.

Mexican heritage and celebrates a symbol that has long represented Mexican culture. It serves as a reminder to embrace and take pride in where we come from.

The brand

The brand guidelines show how all of the pieces of Los Mixados come together. From the logo and typography to color and packaging, every element works together to create one recognizable brand.

The posters bring each character into a world that connects back to the object they're holding. Every environment is inspired by familiar moments, traditions, and places that reflect Mexican American nostalgia and everyday life.
